The Griffith Station Car Park upgrade project was successfully completed on budget despite numerous challenges presented along the way. Rapid Construction has delivered many regional projects for NSW Government agencies and with this experience, sourced the resources required to complete these works from across the Riverina. Hot mix asphalt was delivered 187.4 km from Wagga Wagga in heated trucks. Sub-grade materials came from quarries and crushers in Leeton. Workers sourced from Narrandera, Leeton, Griffith and Sydney completed the works. Very heavy rains were experienced prior to laying of asphalt, however due to the quality of the sub-grade and the compaction standard achieved, no damage was sustained to the compacted sub grade. No silt flows potentially causing environmental contamination escaped the site due to the maintenance of controls and the constant presence of a Rapid Construction supervisor during the inclement weather, even though no works were being undertaken. Through cooperation and coordination with Sydney Trains, Griffith City Council and coach operators there was no disruption to the location or provision of access to transport for passengers to the station or the coach services.
