Rapid has had extensive experience in and around the heritage-listed Central Station Precinct for 11 continuous years and was engaged to carry out the delivery of enabling works for the Sydney Metro City & Southwest project at Central Station. Rapid’s scope of work involved the innovative off-site manufacture of a series of eight custom modular fully serviced, air-conditioned buildings; demolition and removal of existing structures; installation of new services to platforms; modifications and additions to existing services. This was followed by the carefully staged installation and commissioning of each modular building to new platform locations. Rapid deployed day and night shift teams across the eight-month build. We fabricated the buildings off-site and our electrical and hydraulic teams conducted initial rough-in of services in the factory. The work was carefully planned in collaboration with Laing O‚ÄôRourke and Sydney Trains to minimise disruptions to station operations. The majority of on-site work was completed during short night windows, when trains were not running. This included the task of bringing each modular building alongside the platform, mounted on a hi-rail vehicle, then carefully manoeuvring it on custom-designed skates and channels into position on the platform. Final fit-out, service connections and commissioning were then achieved during night time and daytime periods.
